Background:

In my Capstone class, our final project was to create something to feature on our portfolio. This project is meant to be something that reflects who we are and our desired career path. The only requirements were that it was something that required usto learn a new skill and it was long enough to take the entire semester to complete. I chose to do a design for Raven Flux, a fictional band preparing to release their debut album. The psychedelic/punk band was looking for something that uses neon colors while still having an edge, as well as something that stands out and sets the tone for upcoming releases. They wanted an album cover, vinyl inserts, a short ad for socials, and a booklet that shows the design process.

Results:

This project taught me the importance of every step of the design process. To start out, I created a mood board to present to Raven Flux, showing them the vibe I was going for based on their proposal, as well as a sketch of the album cover. I then went onto the design, drawing the raven skeleton and using free-use stock images for the dirt and other assets. I adjusted the colors and textures of everything to give it a bright, grunge look. Once the cover design was com pleted and mockups were created, I made a short motion graphics ad to be posted on socials. Finally, I used InDesign to create a flipbook of my process from beginning to end, as well as explanaitions for my choices. My work resulted in a 100% on my capstone project, as well as kudos from my professor, peers, and portfolio reviewers. I received valuable practice in Adobe Creative Suite, as well as a strong foundation for using InDesign.
